Every year since 1993 Gary Martin (retired Bureau of Indian Affairs Forester) teamed up with other Natural Resource Professionals to host Owhi Lake Kids Day for the Nespelem School District Kids (K-8). Gary coordinated with the awesome staff and teachers @ Nespelem School to get kids from the classroom to the lake. The main goal was to get kids interested in science! The idea was to bring reservation youth and reservation Natural Resource Professionals from various fields together @ the lake where talks/discussion/presentations could center on the location then explore and learn how important water is to the reservation.
The most recent Owhi Lake Kids Day took place on May 28, 2015. What follows are a few pictures that highlight the awesomeness that took place.
Just last week I received a surprise visit from Gary Martin, he brought several bundles of hand written letters from the First Grade Class thanking the presenters. Then a few days later I received a large envelope stuffed with more hand written letters, this time from the Fourth Grade Class. I distributed the letters to the presenters. What follows are the letters from the Fourth Grade Class. Thanks to the awesome students and teachers that took time to think of us! Your words and art are beautiful!
These are fantastic examples of a fantastic day at Owhi Lake.
ReplyDeleteThank you Doug Marconi for organize it.
I apologize for the 5-8th grade thank you's-- our school internet has been down since June 1st, and we were not able to finish ours. We kept expecting our service to be fixed after that storm. However, here is what have completed: Fifth through Eighth Grade Thank You! [click]
